This study aims to analyze population changes and their impact on the demographic and developmental structure of Ain Mara area during the period (1973–2020), within the framework of population geography and local development. The study adopts a causal analytical approach supported by quantitative and descriptive-analytical methods, relying on population census data, civil registry records, and field data. It examines population size and growth trends, natural increase, and migration, in addition to analyzing age and sex structure, as well as the educational and economic characteristics of the population. The results reveal a significant increase in population size over the study period, with fluctuating growth rates influenced by economic and political conditions. Natural increase was identified as the main driver of population growth, while migration played a limited role. The study also shows a gradual decline in average household size and a noticeable improvement in educational attainment, particularly among females, which contributed to changes in reproductive behavior. These population changes have reshaped the demographic and economic structure of the area, creating future developmental challenges that necessitate integrating the population dimension into local planning processes. The study recommends strengthening population planning policies to support balanced and sustainable local development
