Plagiarism continues to be a significant challenge in academic environments worldwide, though the reasons behind it can differ greatly depending on cultural and educational contexts. This paper aims to explore the specific factors contributing to plagiarism in research papers among Libyan students. Using a quantitative method to collect data obtained from student questionnaire, the participants are 25 undergraduate students from the two major departments (English and Translation) of languages and translation college. The results reveal that plagiarism is primarily influenced by limited awareness of academic rules, insufficient ethical guidance, and the perception that misconduct often goes unpunished.
