Abstract

The Study aims to Reveal the Change in Vegetation Cover in the Al-Ghairan Municipal Branch of Misrata Municipality by Using the NDVI Vegetation Cover index, in Order to Identify Vegetation Cover Categories and Identify the Causes of Vegetation Cover Change in the Study area. The Study Reached a Number of Results, the Most Important of Which are: The Decline of Vegetation Cover to only Two Categories: (Weak Vegetation Cover, and Medium Vegetation Cover), and that there are Several Factors that Contributed to the Change in Vegetation Cover, Including Natural Factors Such as Soil, Climate and Topography of the Region, and Human Factors Such as Population Growth Which Led to Urban Expansion at the Expense of the Vegetation Cover in the Region. The study Recommended the Necessity of Using Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems Periodically to Monitor and Study Vegetation Cover and the Changes it is exposed to over time, as well as protecting vegetation cover from unjust human encroachments Such as Urban Expansion on Agricultural Lands, Overgrazing and Logging.
